Rockets rumors: Why Kevin Durant is an 'unlikely' Houston trade target
Kevin Durant's Future Uncertain as Suns Miss Playoffs
Kevin Durant appears set to move on from the Phoenix Suns after three seasons, following a disappointing year that saw the team miss the playoffs. The veteran star is reportedly seeking a new destination — one where he can contend for a championship, something that seems unlikely in Phoenix's current state.
One team often mentioned in connection with major trades — the Houston Rockets — is not expected to be in the running for Durant, despite the potential appeal. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Houston's current trajectory doesn't align with Durant’s timeline.
“We’ve been reporting that the Rockets' next significant trade would not happen in-season (as proved true) and is unlikely to target Kevin Durant because the future Hall of Famer is not on the same timeline as Houston's promising young core,” Stein stated.
With the 52-win Rockets preparing to open a playoff series against Golden State, sources told both @JakeLFischer and Stein that a Houston pursuit of Durant is even “less likely” than previously believed. Meanwhile, Phoenix has publicly acknowledged that Durant could be traded this offseason.
